He was born on January 1,
1956, in the city of
Ivano-Frankivs’k in the family of Dmytro and Anna from the family of Prypkhan. In 1963-1973 he studied in the city of
Ivano-Frankivs’k. In 1973 he entered the Ivano-Frankivs’k Institute of Oil and Gas, from which he graduated in 1978, receiving the diploma of an engineer-mechanic. He worked at different factories of the city of
Ivano-Frankivs’k as an engineer-constructor.
On October 14, 1989, he officially entered the Order of Saint Basil the Great. On January 7, 1990, he took vows in the monastery church in the town of
Zolochiv. He went through the first «legal» novitiate in Hoshiv and Krekhiv in 1990-1991.
From 1991 to 1996 he studied in the seminary of the Basilian Fathers and also finished the Theological-Catechetical Spiritual Institute of Ivano-Frankivs’k.
He was ordained a deacon on September 21, 1992, and a priest on October 25 of the same year (the ordaining bishop was Bishop Sofron Dmyterko.
From 1992 to 1998 he ministered in a monastery and the Parish of Christ the King in the city of
Ivano-Frankivs’k. He executed the obligations of steward and chaplains of the Sisters–Myrrh Bearers, was the abbot of the monastery of the OSBM in the
Pohonya, Tysmynets’ District. He began a chaplaincy ministry at the Ivano-Frankivs’k prison and was the chaplain of a youth prayer group. He was also directed to missionary work in Volyn’ and ministered in parishes in Volodymyr-Volyns’kyj, Luts’k and other locations.
Afterwards he was appointed as a hegumen of the monastery and became a pastor of the
Saint Basil the Great in the city of
