Delegation of the UGCC takes part in the Catholic public Social Days of Europe Print E-mail

The first Catholic Social Days of Europe are taking place this weekend, October 8-11, 2009, in Gdansk, Poland. The delegate of the meeting from the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, the head of the Commission of UGCC for assistance of unity between Christians Dr. Ihor Shaban, underlined that the slogan of the congress, in which about 500 delegates from 30 countries of the European Union and the nearby states will take part is Solidarity the challenge for Europe.

The participants of the meeting will be 30 bishops, academics, social activists, experts, politicians, and also the youth. At the opening and completion of the Catholic Social Days of Europe special divine services are foreseen. The first of them will take place on Thursday evening, headed by the Metropolitan of Milan cardinal Dioniggi Tettamansi.

National pilgrimage of Ukrainians to Saint Sofia in Rome has finished. Print E-mail

The third day of the International Pilgrimage to the Cathedral of Saint Sofia was the culmination as the largest number of pilgrims gathered. It is important to underline the fact that along with the Ukrainians which live in Italy, Ukrainians from other countries of Europe and America also took part in the pilgrimage. During the Liturgy Bishop Hlib (Lonchyna) marked the importance of the relation of man to God. Often we speak to God during our most dire moments, but it necessary to be with him every day, stressed the bishop. That day the Liturgy held a special meaning because exactly forty years ago the Saint Sofia Cathedral was solemnly blessed by the Holy Father Paul VI and the relics of the Holy Pope of Rome Clement were brought.

One more church of the UGCC was blessed on in Ternopil' region Diosese of Buchach Print E-mail

On October 4, 2009, in the village Hermakivka Mel'nytsya of the Podillya deanery of the Ternopil region, a reconstructed church was blessed, which was an important event for the villagers. Due to the efforts of the believers and of the pastor Father Mykhail Hrytsvik, the inactive church was returned to life and now has become an adornment of the village.

Head of the UGCC met with the Ambassador of Germany Print E-mail

On October 5, 2009, at the office of the Patriarchs administration, the working meeting of His Beatitude Lubomyr with Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ukraine Ph.D. Gans-Yurgen Gaymziot was held.

During the meeting the sides discussed the religious situation in Ukraine and the status of state-church relations. The important moment of the meeting was the exchange of ideas regarding the historical importance of the fall of the Berlin wall; in fact, this year Germany celebrates the 20th anniversary of this event.

On Sunday, September 27, 2009, in the town of Altoiting (Germany), the eparchial pilgrimage to the miraculous statue of the Mother of God Black Madonna took place. The hierarchical Divine Liturgy in the Church of Saint Conrad was led by the Reverend Bishop Peter (Kryk), in concelebration of fathers: Bohdan Pidlisetskyj, Lyubomyr Fedorak, Andrey Dmytryk, Fr. Mykola Hornykevych from Austria, and Deacon Otto. The Pokrov Choir, lead by of Stanislav Chuenka, sang at the Mass.

In the sermon Bishop Peter greeted all the pilgrims who arrived not only from Munich and surrounding villages but also from Austria and Australia. In regards to  the Jubilee of 50th anniversary of the Eparchy in Germany and Scandinavia, the bishop said in particular, it includes 12 parishes to which belong newly arrived Ukrainians. Besides, he thanked all those who helped in the Churchs civil work throughout the year and said that "the German pastors and guests who were present at the Jubilee celebrations on September 18-20 were impressioned. He also wished further development and growth to the Eparchy.
